Running up to our annual Summer Revamp we were briefed in expanding the kitchen display areas in store to accommodate new product arriving and the expansion of the kitchen area.
The idea was to recreate a living kitchen space to house the new kitchen product. We kept to the masculine brand identity by using raw steel and oak, both prominent materials used in Weylandts stores.
We designed an island specially for displaying all the new pots and pans, with ample storage on the bottom shelves to store pack out and assist in easy shopability. The island was designed in an asymmetrical fashion having a waterfall edge on the one side, this also enclosing the product stored on the bottom shelves to avoid clutter.
The space was divided by perforated steel sheeting, thus allowing the area to be sectioned off without imposing on the view of the store. The perforated sheeting also allowed us flexibility when designing the shelves, as the volume of product always changes the shelves are able to be removed or re-positioned at any time.
The counter was designed to appear as if the shelves were floating, we did this by recessing the center steel support allowing us to achieve this illusion.
This concept and design was then rolled out to all 9 stores internationally. I was responsible for ensuring that the detail and technical drawings were correct in all stores.
