The brief was to add lots of seating areas in the space; he wanted to focus on having multiple VIP and VVIP areas. The look and feel was a rich dark palette with pops of colour brought in through lighting. My responsibilities included space planning, furniture design, sourcing and concept development.
The materials selection consisted of black marble with gold veins, brass, antiqued mirror, velvet, black concrete and plush carpeting for the VIP raised areas. Looking at the flow and layout of the space, I decided to erect a wall behind the bar to ease foot traffic of patrons from the floor to the kitchen area. The main feature of the space was the bar and ceiling, I opted to clad the bar with brass pipes which wrapped around the front and side and illuminated it from behind. The back bar was cladded in panels antiqued gold mirror, the shelves was divided into 3 areas as to promote different sponsors.
I decided to go with booth seating, dividing the seating areas up with ottomans. Upholstered in a dark velvet fabric and supported by a brass rounded kick plate. The ceiling detail made up of brass poles wrapped from the staircase onto the ceiling. At the bottom ends of the poles I inserted down lights for soft illumination along the staircase. To add interest in the double volume space, gold pendant lights was suspended at varying heights through the brass poles.
For the walls we opted for a mix of 3D wall panels and gold and black marble, this added to the richness of the space. For sponsor branding I designed a bottle display above each seating booth. The display illuminated the bottle and had branding cut out of sheets of brass. This becomes a focal point in the seating area. Overall the client was very happy with the design and construction and renovation is due to start soon.
